The Cottage and Homestead are located at 1049-1051 Madrid Ave in Moorhead, Iowa. We are just one hour north of Omaha, one hour south of Sioux City, and two hours from Des Moines.

Blue and green directional signs marked "Loess Hills Hideaway Cabins" will lead you in the same direction as our property and are conveniently posted from scenic Highway 183 four miles north of Pisgah, Iowa, and along the three-mile stretch of gravel road that leads from Peach Ave. Signs are also found along Easton Trail and Madrid Ave to the south of our cabins.

• Hunting: Our location is only minutes away from the Loess Hills State Forest, which offers public access to more than 12,000 acres of the best whitetail and wild turkey hunting in the Midwest. 

• Hiking: The Loess Hills State Forest also has an abundance of hiking trails, including 344-acre Preparation Canyon State Park. An overlook on the north edge of the park provides a spectacular view of the forest. Brent's Trail is another great 8-mile hike in the area we'd recommend.

• Fishing and kayaking: Just down the road from us is Monona County's Savery Pond, where you can fish for bass, catfish, bluegill and crappie. Other fishing and kayaking opportunities can be found at Jones' Watershed, Willow Lake and Oldham Lake in Soldier.

• Farm visits: Small's Fruit Farm in Mondamin is great for families, with an apple orchard and pick-your-own strawberries and pumpkin patches when available. The Loess Hills Lavendar Farm in Missouri Valley is another nearby attraction, which often features craft vendors and hosts public events.

• Loess Hills Country Corner is a convenience store seven miles away in Pisgah, offering a small selection of groceries, gas and a quaint cafe.

• Other grocery stores can be found in Onawa, Missouri Valley and Dunlap on your drive in.
